Student Visa Application

You’ve applied and been accepted to the university of your dreams. It’s time to secure your student visa! It’s a compulsory document needed to begin your studies and without it, you won’t be able to start your programme. Depending on whether you’re a Kuwait citizen or resident, the process will differ slightly as outlined below. Thankfully, our dedicated student visa team based in London are here to support you every step of the way.

As a Kuwaiti student there are several documents that are vital and mandatory for your visa application.

  • Firstly if you intend to be sponsored you will need to be awarded a Financial Guarantee Letter (FGL) and a letter of approval from the Kuwait Cultural Office (KCO). The KCO award students an FGL which financially supports the students by paying for 100% of the students chosen course and also their living expenses. The FGL is given to the university as confirmation of payment and sponsorship of the student.


  • If you are self-funded you will not need FGL. Instead you will need to provide bank statements proving you have the money to fund your education. If parents are helping to fund the education then you will their bank statements and also a Financial Permission Letter (FPL).


  • Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) document is also vital. Without a CAS and FGL you will be unable to apply for a student visa.


  • Another important document is the IELTS, International English Language Testing System. This is an international standardised test which will show that you are able to speak English proficiently which is needed as you intend to study at an English speaking university.


  • Depending on your level of study and the subject that you are studying, a certificate from the Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) maybe required by the university.


  • Any documents that were sent to and from the university application is also needed for your student visa application.


  • If you are under the age of 18, you will need a signed letter of consent from both your parents or legal guardians.


    • Other documents such as a valid passport, your final transcript certificates and your Kuwait Civil Identification Card are also needed.

  • If you are sponsored and have been awarded a FGL, a letter of approval from the KCO and you have applied to a Kuwait Ministry of Higher Education approved university, then you can start your student visa application.

  • For self funded Students the FGL will not be needed. Once a self funded student has gotten a letter of acceptance from their chosen university and also their CAS  then they can start the visa application.

  • Once those documents are attained then you will also need to show that you have proficient knowledge of the English language by passing the IELTS requirements set by the university.

  • Now that you have all you have acquired all the documents shown in the above section the you can apply for your Visa within 6 months of receiving your CAS.

  • When applying for the student visa you will be charged a flat fee of £490 for your application. You may also want use the priority services which is an additional £500.

  • The online application is where you will submit all your documents such as the FGL, CAS, identification and other supporting evidence to help validate your reasons of travelling to the UK and also prove your identity.

  • As part of your student visa application process, you will also need to pay for the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). This price starts at £776 per year but will change depending on the length of your visa and course.

  • You will find out the decision of your visa application within 3 weeks.

  • Once you have successfully applied for a Visa and have been accepted, upon entering the UK you will have 10 days to collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP). This is a vital form of identification that will be needed during your time in the UK.
